Forests & Finance coalition launched a briefing webpage to explain what the Taskforce on Nature-related Financial Disclosures is and reveal its major shortcomings

The Taskforce on Nature-related Financial Disclosures (TNFD) was launched in June 2021 to develop a framework that outlines what information a company or financial institution should self-report regarding how its relationship with nature has, or will, impact its business.

Many people working at the frontline of the nature crisis – including those highly active in trying to halt harmful company and financial institution behaviors – are either unaware of TNFD, find it difficult to understand or feel that their views or expertise are not sought out.

The briefing page provides an introduction to core aspects of the Taskforce on Nature-related Financial Disclosures (TNFD), including how it works and why it is likely to influence future regulation. In doing so, this plain language resource aims to reduce confusion or misconceptions about the TNFD from a civil society perspective. TNFD itself has an official website and Twitter.

The briefing outlines key concerns and recommendations raised by rights holders, civil society organizations (CSOs) or non-government organizations (NGOs) regarding the processes and proposed draft TNFD framework. Here the term rights holders refers to Indigenous Peoples, Afro-descendant communities, local communities, land and environmental defenders and affected workers, including women and youth within these groups.
